It's not dead. Not yet anyway.

If anything Pewdiepie has been getting players to come back. His series have been getting millions of views.

not really.. since pewdiepie started doing minecraft it actually started to rise again.. like the servers i was playing on them (hypixel,saicopvp,hive etc got double the players also which is a great sign for minecraft java edition
