Really focus on your rhythm and timing as much as possible when first learning. And also dont cut corners when it comes to learning songs.

Lead is cool, but you can't be good at the point if you cant play rhythm. I think it's essential to know how to do both, shredding solos is not going to happen overnight

Watch some videos n stuff, maybe get a little class or something.

Learn the penatonic scale, its a very good scale and when you learn it and start playing songs you'll notice a pattern and it will make it very easy for you to create your own riffs. Also once you think you get good enough start learning by ear. Makes life so easier and expands you knowledge faster.
