What I recommend is look for inspiration on Pinterest. Try your best to avoid over the top fads unless you are willing to live with it for a while.

Sometimes even starting with a color scheme can help. Interior Designers can only help if they know what you would like, otherwise you may not like it.

I usually recommend, choose a floor, than walls. If doing a kitchen, it may even help with choosing what cabinets you want first than the floor, and countertops, follow it with backsplash.
