Yes, especially with the pandemic going on - more people have been playing because there isn't much to do out of the home.

Although it is the sort of game you grow out of I think it has timeless appeal like tetris. It's one of those games that won't go out of fashion as you really have a lot of freedom to set your own goals and work at them in the game and difficulty is not high on it. There is even creative mode with no mining required where you can fly around and just build awesomely elaborate structures.

Minecraft is still great with friends. It's sometimes nice to play a relaxing game.
