I would not say it is dead due to the new coins popping up all the time, the question should be is mining still profitable? With the right equipment it can be but it is very expensive and will take a while to see a gain on your return

Speculative mining might be worth it. It depends on how much time you want to put in for researching new coins with potential. You can mine these coins early on when the difficulty is low and sell them once they go in an exchange.

I recently tried mining with my 1080ti and earnings don't cover the electric, its not like it used to be, I think too many people have made the difficulty go up.

On the contrary the hype and less people are making the value go down, Do you know the story of the Tulips?the so-called 'tulipmania', when speculators traded the flower's bulbs (which are useless) for extraordinary sums of money even houses, until, without warning, the market for them spectacularly collapsed. Ever since, the cautionary tale oftulipmania has been held up as the first example of an economic bubble < which is what bitcoin is pretty much.

Totally agree, everything is going to go up again. While all the money has left the market the whales and market movers are buying more of it.

I don't think so, bitcoin mining has gone down in demand and most likely won't recover from this.

If you have free or cheap electricity you will make profit. I use every place to mine where I dont have to pay for electricity so I make profit.

In the current situation, better to sell the mining rig and buy cryptos directly.
