Well without a story, the game can get quite boring after a while especially for those who don't play it for competing with others. It needs a re-imagining if it wants to stay relevant imho.

CS isn't dead. It still has eSports teams keeping it alive and people are really into competitive faceit now than they were before.

I don't think Counter-Strike global offensive is a dead game because a lot of people still play it
