Gmod still has a large playerbase, It's just that people stick to servers that they like or have been playing for a while. It's hard for new communities to start up.

You're probably just don't feel any activity. It's not dead actually.

i think it is resurrecting thanks to roleplay servers, but it is still a fun game to play with friends

Gmod is and will always bee alive. The players are just playing around on small and bad servers
