Imagine paying for Skins.. Bedrock is the more painful version imo. Java is better in every way: coding, servers, performance, shaders, etc.

it really depends on what you guys need!
if you want crossplay on different platforms with limited modding/shaders support, then you want bedrock.
if you want great modding/shader support with no crossplay, then you want java.
keep in mind that there are much more differences than just that, but those are some of the key differences

My minecraft server runs great with Java and Bedrock players at same time I will even log into my bedrock to administer some commands when needed.. I couldn't Answer the question so I went with both hahaa..

java just overall better in terms of performance and compatibility with mods and resource packs

java is better but i play bedrock becouse my pc is performing better on bedrock
when i play java its 30fps

I would say it havely depands on what your friends have in order to play, if all of you can play on java I suggest to play on java plus there are many ways to mod java version into a pretty much a totally different game!

java is so much better in so many aspects there are endless reasons why
