John Krasinksi's involvement with the sequel to his smash-hit suspense thriller A Quiet Place seems to be growing all the time. Initially he was reluctant to be directly involved but happy to consult. Then he had an idea and started work on a screenplay. Now in a new interview with The Playlist he's provided more information on the thrust of A Quiet Place 2 (A Quieter Place?), and suggested he might even direct. What's clear is that we're unlikely to revisit previous characters like Emily Blunt's feisty Evelyn; the concept that sparked Krasinski's enthusiasm is more akin to an anthology series. "The beauty of it is that it's the expansion of a world," he explains. "Most sequels are about the return of a villain or a hero, and you have to build a totally new story around your favorite hero or favorite villain. [With this sequel], we actually have the world to deal with. The world is actually the star of the movie. So, this set of circumstances how the rest of the world is dealing with this apocalyptic tragedy is the fun of it then. Thats what drew me back." The sequel, like the first film, is coming together at Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes, where Kransinski says he was "Jedi mind tricked" into coming back. "So here I am now writing it and well see if I end up directing it. But its an entertaining idea because I think for me, the cool part about this is, that it doesnt feel like a sequel." A Quiet Place 2's release is currently pencilled in for 15 May, 2020.
