What if there are different contests every month, 12 in total a year? I've got enough money laying around that I could invest into contests, but we could also host some without cash prizes and offer cash-prize contests on special months like easter, halloween, christmas, etc.

That could work, and would CERTAINLY bring new members in, if you were to advertise and include this on an advertisements banner, I am 99% sure it will bring active members to the community.

I like this idea. I'm also down with the idea of cash prizes only being for special months.
Would make those months more special. I feel like that would give people more things to work for rather than just getting a high post count.
What kind of prizes would be offered for the non-special months?

A "general" focused forum is doomed to die. People are rather simple creatures after all, the more options they are presented with, the more confused they'll get. Hence they often tend to be overwhelmed and as an result, post less because of it on "general" forums. This place has always had a way too focused audience to change the niche to "general" and I don't see that change no matter what. Changing niche is one thing, adding one niche to the list is also a possible idea, but going full "general" just seems like an awful idea.

I dunno. Start to slowly add more and more niches, increasing the focus on them little by little and work your way towards "general" status along that way. Going from A to in one big step never sounds like a good idea.

Take a look at leakforums, they tried to generalize their forums alot and their traffic slowed down and now there hardly is any original leaks...
