I have a relatively good gaming laptop, acer nitro 5 radeon, yet minecraft is still running really bad. I average around 60 fps sometimes, and at times I go down to 1 or 2 fps. I have java installed correctly, drivers are up to date, and 4 gb ram allocated to minecraft with optifine. For some reason I still can't run it smoothly on 1.16. I don't know if this is an issue with my specs or an issue with the game, my friend has the same computer and runs it very smoothly for some reason.

maybe you accidentally turned on the built in shaders (make sure they are off) or some lag making video settings? try messing arround with the video settings i remember having the same problem because i truned on smart fps or something , i forgot

Go to Video settings and set Quality, or as there is set to fast, not to Fancy.

I knew some Fabric mods that can increase your FPS a lot of times: Sodium, Lithium, and Phosphor, these mods are really awesome, and yes, I have tried them then it makes my Minecraft FPS to 1000+, I am not joking, if you don't believe me, you can try it yourself.

Lower your render distance....

There's many different factors when low FPS is involved. Make sure that you have every useless feature turned to it's lowest setting and your render distance at 9 or below. You may also want to check and make sure that all your ram allocation isn't being used somewhere else in the background for some reason. I remember when I was running MC with shaders (so I needed to have around 8 GB of Ram allocated) and I kept getting frame drops because I had some random apps running in the background.

Try installing optifine, it may help.

Because minecraft is not a very demanding game, but still there are textures and shadows in it, reduce the quality of shadows and textures and you'll be fine Smile
