#1 I am sure we all have some great story from school / work to tell.
Let me start off with one of my work stories.
For obvious reasons I am going to leave out names / places.
We are in the year 2015.
The first migration/refugee wave arrives in Europe.
It surprised quite a few people.
Due to the nature of the organization I work for we were tasked with setting up a refugee camp.
The Location has been provided by the city.
it was an abadoned military building, which has already been scheduled for demolition so new housing units for the general population can be built.
Some of the buildings in the area have already been demolished.
Then the city canceled the demolition permit for this specific building and asked us to turn this into a location where the refugees/migrants can be kept.
So here are the problems:
Surly they could help us get a internet connection up and running.
Of course they responded in the usual "we are the biggest provider manner" and told us.
"Well... In 4 to 6 weeks we might be able to provide a network connection to that building"
But luckily that was a urban area.
And we have a local provider that operates in that area.
So we contacted them.
"Well... One of our guys will be there in two hours to meet with you and inspect the location."
Two hours later we met with one of their guys at the location.
"Oh well... We have to lay 200m coax cable from the next junction box to the building... Thats gonna take us... 2 days"
Those guys went to their next junction box (which was on the other side of a road) and connected it to the building.
Of course the installation wasnt pretty. They used wooden struts to prop up the cable over the road and it worked just fine.
At the time when we needed it the price wasnt really a question.
The government wanted it, so the government got it.
We were pleasently surprised when we got the bill.
They only charged us for the coax cable and 70 for the business connection (50Mbit DS / 5Mbit US)

So here are the problems:
- There is a law in my country which requires that all refugees have access to the internet so they can communicate with the people they left behind when they had to flee their country.
- That building was pretty old and used by the military as troop barracks. -> There is no high speedinternet connection in that building
- The telephone junction box has already been removed from the building (so no adsl /isdn either)
