#1 Now everyone is entitled to there own opinion so I thought Id personally share my opinion of the Black Ops 4 Beta. I expect a lot of downvotes for having a mostly positive review of the game since most of this subreddit is just people complaining about the same three things and try to back it up with ?its my criticism when in reality there is a difference between criticism and just bitching, complaining and whining.
First off, I pretty much played religiously for the first 24 hours of the 2nd weekend of the beta (because Im an Xbox player). The only reason I got off was because I havent been so addicted to a game in SO long. I was having such a good ass time playing the game that I didnt want to quit. I also played the beta more often than not when it was up.
Gameplay
Now there were moments I did get a little frustrated but thats because I was getting just purely outplayed which in most CODs was people dropshotting and not just being more accurate. Jumpshotting was only a problem I encountered in one match where one-person spammed A in every gunfight which did get very annoying but it isnt as bad since it was only that one game of the 20+ hours Ive played. One thing that I noticed was there were a few guns in a very good spot such as the MX9, ABR and ICR but that didnt stop from a majority of people using other weapons, I think I saw every weapon being used at some point or another so its good that even though there is a higher tier of ?god guns right now, they should get balanced out because Treyarch hasnt really dragged their feet when it comes to weapon balancing, I mean they balanced weapons from the first weekend to the second weekend so I expect them to be this good at it in the full game.
Maps
The only map I didnt really enjoy every time was Gridlock but thats mostly because both Gunships I got were on that map and all I could see was the damn freeway above the majority of map which sucked really bad. Hacienda gave me MAJOR Raid vibes from Black Ops 2 and I just loved it so much, the map is amazing from the vineyard flanks to the Courtyard in the middle to the water flanks on the opposite side. Contraband is hella fun as well and probably my favorite of the base beta maps.
Scorestreaks
Now I will be in the majority on this one. Some streaks are very lackluster and when I say some I really mean the Attack Chopper. The Stealth Chopper from BO2 and Wraith from BO3 were absolute MONSTERS and the Attack Chopper at least as it was in the beta was either 0 to 1 kill or it demolishes and gets 10+ with no in between. However, the Strike Team and Strafe Run put in work on a very consistent basis., so they really make up for it and the Gunship is so much fun to use. I think the UAVs are a little expensive, but I didnt really notice it until it was pointed out to me. The Mantis is terrific except moving properly at times but its more funny than frustrating. The timer before a round starts should be longer because getting Hellstormed 6 seconds into a Control match is detrimental and quite annoying. I also had a problem on Seaside on the Defense Spawn side that if I called in a Care Package, I couldnt pick it up and it would sit there. It only happened on this map on that side and it happened to me and my friends multiple times.
Specialists
I put in a good amount of time with each specialist and I think that they are all incredible in their own way. Personally I LOVE Firebreak, the radiation core is the most fun piece of equipment Ive used in not just COD but any game I can remember. The slower cooldown times for the Specialist Equipment and the Specialists Ability are a very good system Treyarch put into place to avoid grenade spamming if you chose a grenade over the Specialist equipment and I think every Specialist can be used efficiently. However, I do want to say that I think a very skilled Ajax player would be OP because that shield is impenetrable and the fact you can shoot from it too is so incredibly powerful, plus a well placed 9-Bang makes you utterly useless for a good amount of time. I can imagine all the specialist will be tweaked in some way before the full game drops, but I dont think anything too crazy will happen. I feel getting Nomads dog took a little longer than other Specialist Abilities and for how underwhelming it can be at times, I believe this is unwarranted.
Fog Of War/Stim Shot/Body Armor
Fog of War is one change Im not entirely happy with. Its a good concept but the fact you can see behind you at times is a little, well stupid. Of course, its helped me in situations but has also screwed me over more times than not. I believe we should just have a cone in front of our player icon on the radar and that should be that. I want to also preface that I only ran Stim Shot and it is an absolute crutch. I dont know what gameplay is like without it because Ive never not used it, which Im okay with because the other pieces of equipment cater to other playstyles and my playstyle favors using the Stim Shot compared to any of the other equipment. As an Xbox players I saw how frustrated people got at others who used Body Armor but honestly I never noticed a person using it all weekend, Id notice Id get a few extra points for killing an armored enemy but I didnt feel like they had body armor on in comparison to the other players I was shooting.
Bugs
I did have a few bugs throughout the weekend but non were entirely ?game-breaking expect not being able to boot up the game after restarting it (but that was hot-fixed away). There was a bug on Xbox that if someone was leaving our Xbox Live Party the game would lag for a solid second or two and did get my friends and I killed a few times and obviously that was quite annoying. I also did have a massive texture glitch on Contraband but it was only once and it didnt affect my gameplay at all. Since I was running off of the OG Xbox One I did have choppy intro fly-ins for every map I loaded into but once again it didnt affect my gameplay so Im not too upset about it since it was everyone I was playing with too and not just me.
Game Modes
This will be a quick section because I love Hardpoint and Domination but hopefully theyll be in there own playlist when the game releases but if not I wouldnt be too upset about it. Control is a lot of fun and so is Heist. The Chaos Moshpit was mostly lackluster due to what Id consider awful spawns and what seemed to be very unbalanced teams.
Conclusion
I absolutely loved this game and I hate to see it go even if we get a blackout beta in a few weeks. This is the most Ive enjoyed a COD game since Black Ops 2, I cannot wait to play the hell out of this game, Ive seen so much negative ?feedback that it reminds me how garbage the community can be which is my only concern. Constructive Criticism is necessary but as I pointed out at the beginning, there is a difference between critiquing and just whining, its a thin line but it is noticeable and it does exist. Ive preordered the $100 Digital Deluxe Edition and the beta has only solidified that choice as a good one for me. The Black Ops Pass ?controversy is honestly the dumbest thing the community has complained about. Would it be nice to have a load of free maps, guns, etc? Yes but COD (most importantly Activision) has NEVER done that before, theyve always went with the season pass model and I dont see why anyone expected this to change. Anyway I myself was getting a little toxic at the end but my overall impression is I love it and with a few changes and constant support it could be my most favorite COD game to date.
