Themes are much easier to modify than a plugin and or the core mybb.

I prefer the latest version of everything. 1.6 is vulnerable to attacks, and the latest 1.8.7 patch has had numerous bug fixes. Also there are some really amazing plugins that are made for 1.8.

You should always use the latest version of mybb.

Version 1.6 has become outdated for a long time.

Users here are mistaken, HF is still running 1.6, although you would barely recognise it as so.
