New World: Has anyone played the alpha?

The setting and art style of this game look amazing to me. I love the sound of playing as basically an inquisitor or a cultist. However from what I've heard, the gameplay isn't actually good.

I'm not sure how much of this negativity has come from people who were looking for the original survivor-style content. Has anyone played this game yet? Is anyone else planning on playing it?

I emailed Jeff Bezos about it but he didn't get back to me (true story).
