Lux is a good mage starter champion that is usually always good, if you do want more a fighter you could learn Darius or Jax quite simple to learn and quite good if fully mastered.

Looking up the FOTM champs will pretty much give you a good insight of who's in meta at the moment. Though I always think it's better to play a champ that you enjoy instead of riding the wave of what's best atm.

I think Lux is a good starter champ, easy to use, with darkharvest can one shot anybody

It depends how long you've been playing. If you know the basics of how the game works, you should be fine if you play any champion. Just make sure you take the time to learn the intricacies of the character and try not to switch up between a lot of different ones because otherwise you will be focusing more on learning a lot of new champions and less about the game in general which is really the most important thing.
