Look at he origin of the word gender and how it was originally used.

We basically tweaked it to please these people.

The lgbt culture was created to counter the stupidity of stereotypes that were created by Hollywood movies. Of course when you are trying to fight stupidity, you may end up getting stupid yourself and that is what happened.
