My friends and I host a Garry's mod server, and we've since noticed a message that seems to come in chat every hour or so saying that our server is using illegaladd-ons.

What can we do to identify the addon causing this?
I've already tried checking all of the .lua code for paid add-ons, and the code in the Lua/autorun folder.
I'vee even tried taking out the addons with encrypted strings to see if the message still appears, and it still appears.

We don't know how longthis has been as we've only just noticed chat.
We would like to remove it so that players don't join, see the message and leave.
If we could simply change one of the add-ons, or change the message to something else, that would be considered enough for us.

if it is any help, this is the message that is said in the logs (so it appears to be a client-sidething).
"NAME<N><ID><RANK>" say "This server is using illegally downloaded software. Please support content creators and do not play on servers that support pi"

Thanks in advance for any help that you could provide.
(I could not find anything about the message online or in code)

Could you send a picture of all your addons?

Thanks

There are a few things you can try.
There's the fast method but I'm unsure if it works at all and it will take time to check: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=843027781
Find the scripts with DRM. There are a few which I checked of here, probably a lot more than that (Not all of them have DRM but some might have the message) https://i.imgur.com/m3GXk1i.png
Then the last but not least, the longest and most tiring method: Check through all the codes of the suspected scripts you haven't or have bought to see if there is anything in them

There are a lot of scripts here which I haven't touched before so there might be some misunderstandings.

Your best bet would be to remove or fix the DRM on the script that is causing the print.

To speed up the process, search up the names on gmodstore and find the ones with DRM and the ones without.

It will take time, but it is probably worth it.

It could also be located in the data folder, check there.

I used to have a method on finding a certain string, but I completely lost it sadly. I will be on the lookout and post back if I find it.

Your citybus system has DRM, see if it has been removed or not. https://www.gmodstore.com/scripts/view/4...bus-system

Alternatively, you could try to use Windows' own findstr system. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...90907.aspx
Might be hard to understand, perhaps a few tutorials on it.

weird, have you tried checking the server console, if not copy the message from chat and search the addon files for that string

I've tried searching (using findstr and Notepad++) through all of the files (*) for strings like "piracy" and "illegal" and I couldn't find anything related to it.
Out of all of the mods I've checked (170), only a few of them have DRM which have already been bypassed.
I've checked the data folder, and nothing in there looks like it could be causing anything.
I'm interested in the first option, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get/use it.
EDIT: weget the message about piracy, and the console says nothing extra.

If you add it to your server collection it should automatically work on restart.

I suppose you could try to use gmad and extract it to change around on the code.

Ello!

This might take alot of time but, remove all the mods and just re-add them 1 by 1.

I agree with rekon. But look first on gmodstore, what addons that have a protection on them. Many have it to day. That gota narrow it down to just a few. =)
