This is a review that I am actually looking forward to writing. Your lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.) I will break it down into a few parts, which you can see in the table of contents. I'm pretty honest about what I write and I usually only review anime that really caught my attention and kept me happy all the way until the end. So here we go.
Story
MAL:
Quote:Piano prodigy Arima Kosei dominated the competition and all child musicians knew his name. But after his mother, who was also his instructor, passed away, he had a mental breakdown while performing at a recital that resulted in him no longer being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Even two years later, Kosei hasn't touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. Kaori helps Kosei return to the music world and show that it should be free and mold breaking unlike the structured and rigid style Kosei was used to.

The story of this anime was actually kind of interesting. I for one LOVE classical music, which is used heavily in this anime. The piano and violin. Competitions and heavy practice sessions. It develops each character kind of well, they focus a little too much on Kosei in my honest opinion. I would have preferred they have focused on the others to bring it all together.
It has a lot of drama, at first it starts of kind of slow but once you get into a few episodes you can really see something coming down the pipe and it just grasps you and takes you on it's fun little ride. It mixes comedy well into the story so you're not a depressed wreck after watching some of the episodes. It runs rather smoothly overall though and the characters do help the story.
Art work
The art work is taking the turn to the new age of anime, that I see. It's clean and goes with whatever situation they have. You have your comedy scenes then you have your serious/dramatic scenes. It really does help with the anime and I loved it. I laughed and cried through it with just the help of the art work.
Characters
Each character that was placed into this story helped bring the anime to life. They each did something for the story and were developed with it, some a little more than others but they did their thing. I don't think there was a character I didn't really like, at times you do think to yourself "what a little bitch" or "what the fuck are they doing?" But nothing to the point of disliking them, not for me anyway.
Music, sounds and voice actors
They did a very nice job on the voice acting (subbed, I don't watch dubbed.) I was brought into the anime on their voices alone and the sounds of the instruments. The music was beautiful and that was my favorite part of the anime. Hardcore classical music.
Ending
The ending is the BEST ending I could have ever asked for in this anime. It is both sad and amazing. You will not be left with a bad taste in your mouth after seeing the ending after experiencing the whole series. It is kind of expected but at the end of it all, I just sat and thought to myself "wow." I really had no other words after that, a must see.
Conclusion & Rating
In conclusion, watch this. Is is almost a masterpiece. There were bits and pieces that were missing but damn. It was so satisfying to watch and I'm glad I spend all those hours in watching it. 22 episodes of pure joy and fun for me.
My overall rating is:
9/10
Loved it!

#4 I remember watching shigatsu wa kimi no uso. It's one of the very few anime whose name i remember in japanese.
Nice review, although i didn't like the anime much. It was...too said, left me fucked up for days.
Clannad, your lie in april and anohana are the three anime that left me emotionally fucked up for real.
