If you want the basis, you can start from w3schools.com and searching for some howto's on youtube. Try to replicate them.

I use sublime text 3.
I love w3schools.com.
I basically use my own framework to develop my project. It is better to say I use Uikit 3 as front end framework and wordpress platform.

Hello !

Well, if i create this post, its to talk about how you started development

What tools you used / use? (Software, text editor)
Where did you learn ?
And finally your tips to get started.

For me,I started by developing web like most people with HTML then CSS to be able to customize the site of my game server.
I didn'tlearn directly on the forums, I first tried to understand alone when i was trying to modify the code of the cms of my website, etc .. then after I went on a French development forum.
Regarding software and text editor, First, i used Notepad ++ which was a good software for the beginning.
I then switched to Sublime text 2 and 3, these are the ones I used the longest.
Now I'm on Atom for a little while, it's for me the best: It has a more comfortable visual interface, we can install themes to adapt it to our tastes or a lots of plugins to help us with the work And it mainly has the function of organizing the files on the left (see screen)

N.B : On the screenshot i open the /www project with IPS to not show you the other project and i hidden some SQL DATA.

What I advise to begin with in the web development, is not to take the code of another, to modify it like for example a template, a navigation ...
You can try to reproduce, by personalizing it but without taking the code of another

I look forward to seeing your answers, and the path you have taken to get to your current skills.
Best regards, Thaldraes

Personally I think there's two competitors in the text editor world at the moment and they are Microsofts Visual Studio Code (free) and Sublime Text 3 (free with ads, you can buy a license for around $70). I use Visual Studio Code and it's perfect. I've used Sublime Text 3 with a leaked key and to be honest, Visual Studio Code has done everything Sublime Text has done for me. Both have lots of amazing community plugins that are kept up to date and both run brilliant.

I learn to code on both Codeacademy and TeamTreehouse. Codeacademy is amazing for getting your hands dirty and TeamTreehouse is video based and is great for explaining stuff.

My tip for you to getting started is to be patient. You will not learn both HTML & CSS in one night. Even though they are pretty easy to learn and wrap your head around, there's still a lot to take in. Once you feel confident in both, maybe take the time to learn Bootstrap and this will help you deploy a static website a lot quicker. Also, maybe create a few "dummy" websites which you can add to a portfolio later on and once you've mastered HTML & CSS, move onto JavaScript.
