Starting new server?

Guys, i wanted to make a server on minecraft, is it good in year 2018? I wanted some technic mod pack or something like that.

I mean if you wanna run a server with friends it would be fine but don't expect any profit or population in a game that's progressively lost the interest of most of it's playerbase over the years. You can thank their most major updates for that.
