You can buy trading cards on the steam market to make badges.You don't need to ownthe game in order to get the badge for it.

I know, I'm a 1000 level steam user. You didn't get my point, the whole level is useless to lose money on it.

I didn't say spend money on games TO level your account, i just said buying games you'll enjoy is more worth it.
