[Suggestion] Default profile avatars and profile covers.

So v4hl and I were chatting in the lounge about this and thought we should bring this up to you guys.

Our idea that we have brainstormed together is that the default avatar/profile coverthat new members have now is just to repetitive and old. I know in V4 there is a lot of changes coming up and something like this may already be implemented, but I would like to at least add it in the suggestion. We were thinking that maybe we could have a handful of different "default" avatars and profile covers that when a user is signing up, that one of the options is for them to choose one out of the variety to start the journey with at NulledBB. I know a normal user can change there avatar at anytime but the profile picture they choose will be the one they're stuck with until they upgrade. This way it will keep the upgrade incentives for users but it will also give the new members a variety. This way us older members don't continue to see the same avatar and profile cover and naturally assume leecher. I don't know how difficult this would be to be implemented but it would be a nice feature.

I think the default avatar gets changed every version. I remember v2 had a different one anyway
This is kind of a moot point tho cus no matter what the avatar is gonna be overused by some point

Yes I agree the avatar will be overused at some point but its still a variety rather then just 1 single one. Also avatars can be changed at anytime by any member.. But the profile cover is a 1 time pick at signup and would give a little variety when looking around at new members. Its just a nice touch for new members and existing.

Ninja that's everything mate! well, adding an option to choose a profile pic while they are creating an account or just... a random one! also why don't they get a cover picture. a default one.. and they can change it once they upgrade!
i mean.. seeing all the new members' with the same profile picture is annoying! you can't even remember their username.. it's more like one member spamming the whole forum. x)

I can say with ease that the profile cover would never be an option for regular users to choose default one. The reason for this is if you give them five options and they pick one, then they want to change it we'd get spammed with profile background change requests which would then just cluster support. If we did it for one member then everyone else would be like "well you guys did it for x" and so on. Profile pictures could have some verity to them in terms of the same avatar but different colours maybe, besides that I don't see us adding a load of random avatars that get automatically assigned. Faded any thoughts on this?

As Nasyr said, the profile cover is an upgraded user feature that's supposed to look good when someone upgrades. It doesn't change how the forum functions, it has no "p2w" mechanics so non-upgraded users don't miss out on anything. If it looks dull for you, you can upgrade.
Avatars can be changed at any time for users, regardless of their rank and I don't think we need default options when a user can upload literally almost anything they want.

How about doing what google does to default avatars?
Take the first letter of their username and with a colour(or the default one) make the avatar.

Yes, That makes since what Faded and Nasyr are saying. It was just a suggestion.
I get that Nasyr is concerned about change request which could be annoying but then that is why you would have it very clear its a 1 time pick and maybe even a confirmation of it. If they want a different one they can always upgrade.
Also on Faded's point of the upgraded users get to only add a profile cover. I was thinking that the normal members would only get the 5 choices or whatever quanity of one but that upgraded users get to actually change there cover at anytime to anything.

I do understand both points and it does make sences, So I wont go back and fourth about it. It was just a idea that we came up with. I know even normal members can change there profile pic at anytime to pretty much anything.. Just wish more of them did. Anyways thanks for even taking a look at this and responding guys.. I agree with Oathkeeper. The google approach would make the no-avi leechers (or just newbies to the site who haven't gotten comfy yet) more engaging. I suppose that would make them a bit more *unique* than if they all had the same discord-looking-fox-thingy which is the default now.

Note that the discord-fox is brilliant, just with the negative connotation of it being the face of so many stoopid leechers I had to interact with.

(Or is it just a person with horns? Is that a nose or a snout? Aoki we demand answers!)

A completely of the side idea:What about just giving some credit,I dunno,10 credits, to the first profile pic they change?
