Hi again, all.
I'm in the process of setting up a dedicated server for hosting a heavily modified version of DarkRP with a host of addons (surprise, surprise!). That being said, I've played with it quite a bit, read up on several common complaints, and feel a bit courageous now. My goal is to revise the common approach to most "RP" setups, and return the "creation focus" of standard Garry's Mod gameplay to the formula. I'm going to attempt this by utilizing a broad variety of approachable, and easily understood/well integrated, RPG and progression mechanics that explain a player's role/job/position in the world, WITHOUT heavy-handed server/admin rules that only complicate gameplay, detract from fun, and spend waaay more time and resources enforcing personal ideas onto a community.
Example:"Rogue" class that's far more typical to "Classic RPGs"...
  • Extremely high mobility (increased land, crouch speed, and far more jump height, as examples)
  • Ability to use parkour mechanics (that do NOT involve a SWEP)
  • Access to tools and weapons designed to gain access or obtain items (ex: Lock-picks)
  • Black Market access for specialised resources
  • Several non-lethal methods of dealing with other people/NPCs.
  • Misc. other things to round out an entire class, complete with leveling mechanics designed for each class type.
  • The downsides could be that they require an expensive or difficult to obtain training/perk/whatever in order to use the vast majority of offensive weapons (because they're a THIEF! NOT AN ASSASSIN).
This is only a small part of what I've done thus far, but I'd very much like to hear any and all suggestions or criticisms. Thanks in advance for your responses!

I think it is a really good idea, but not for a DarkRP, the mechanics of DarkRP involves "one shot" jobs. Real fast transition between jobs and RolepLay scenes, you dont need the create a "real" caracter. But you can always try, that's the best way to know if it'll work. But you should really take care of the multiplayer, i understand your rogue exemple like this job don't need any interaction with other jobs to progress, that might be underating the potential of your project.

Hope it helps a little Wink

That's a really cool idea, if you actually make it then I'd like to have the IP so I could join in and have a bit of fun

LawlessRP is a great way to run a darkrp server in order to maintain the fun
