Well as a genre, it came a hell of a long way from how people in New York expressed general frustrations with the system, to becoming one of the most popular genres of music in the world.

In terms of quality, that depends on what you're looking for in your hip hop/rap music. If your more politically conscious,Immortal Technique, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest will fit you nicely.

Looking for bars about how and artist subdued their enemies, Any Chicago, UK, or NY drill tracks will do.

Or if you don't separate yourself from the mainstream, Drake has some fantastic tracks.
