I usually follow a "Save 15-20%" Rule, which involves pulling that percentage out of anything I make. Keeping the cash physically is always helpful as well, and planning a budget can help too. If anything, do your best to re-evaluate if you really really need to buy something, or if you can simply save your money to buy something even better later on.

put your cash somewhere hidden and view it as time spent rather than money earned

Take a look at what you have been spending your money on, and start taking unnecessary items off of that list. Start drawing a definitive line between what you want and what you need.
You don't NEED to go to a restaurant to eat, you WANT to.
You don't NEED to buy that new video game, you just really WANT to.
Only spend your money on the necessities like rent, insurance, food, etc.. If you do this for long enough you'll eventually build yourself a little nest egg of disposable money. After doing it for long enough you'll adapt to the lifestyle and it won't seem all that difficult. I've been doing it since I got my first job in early high schooland everything has been working out just fine. I will very rarely spend money on myself or others.

I know it's hard to not spend your money on things you really want, but think of the amount of stress and difficulty that will be introduced into your life if you use your funds irresponsibly.

There is nothing worse than being in a shitty financial position because of irresponsibility.

Another tip that's worked quite well for me:
When you go to the grocery store to purchase food, try buying things to make meals with as opposed to buying individual meals. Soup and foods similar to it are an exception to this because they are often on sale and are incredibly cheap for what you are getting.
