TeamOnline Plugin Help

Using this plugin - https://community.mybb.com/mods.php?action=view&pid=183

I am using the Avenger theme which has the sidebar code in the Header template. I can't use the variable for the team online bit in the header template for some reason, can only use it in the Index template. Is there any way I can resolve this?
