Hi! Tell me your most gruesome hard-drive nightmares. Tell me what went wrong, how the PC acted for you, how you fixed it, etc.

I muffed mine up recently and I want to feel better about it. xD I did end up fixing it, after three tries. But still...
I genuinely want to hear your stories, so post 'em!

Not really a hardware failure, more like clumsiness of me. I dropped mine when replacing the desktop case. Lost 2 terabyte of files in just a split second. Now I have external hard drives with backups and backups of backups incase the first backup hard drive goes bad.

This happens when I accidentally format the wrong dive which is the Operating System. I am using Norton ghost that time. Lost some important files though.

I work for an IT company, and we had 4 server drives simultaneously. Luckily, we ran a 2 way mirror with parity on 8 drives, so we basically got everything restored before the company even noticed.

I used to always get corrupted bits on my older computer. I first got it with OpenSUSE, so I switched to Fedora and it continued. The issue occured sometimes when I restarted my PC.

Oh boy, I work as a system administrator and that actually happened to me a couple of times. Foolish of me, of course, but since then I always use backup software. Handy Backup is good - it's the most simple in configuration and powerful hdd image backup utility I've ever used. So, if you still don't have any backup software on your server, it's time to think of it.

I have a huge collection of vintage drives. My worst nightmare is that the container that houses them burns to ashes by accident... :D
