In the movie the Prestige our main character purchases a device that allows him to duplicate himself to appear to teleport across the room. Not wanting to share in the credit of this amazing magic trick, he arranges that one of the versions of himself will die.
This has me thinking of the concept of quantum teleportation. Your body is read, converted to information, then destroyed potentially effectively killing you. A copy is created that has all of your memories and all of your personality, but may not carry your experience through. You may be dead as far as your own experience goes.
Would you step into such a machine knowing that would kill you, just so such a copy could get somewhere much faster?
