Thinking about starting a server

Going back to this thread, I'm kind of interested in hosting a Minecraft server for established and active NulledBB members. It would be a relatively small server (honestly, it's no network so I'm thinking maybe 2-3GB of RAM on a reliableshared host should do). As for what kind of server, doesn't matter. I have previous co-administrating experience, so I am VERY familiar with how this works. HCF, Prison, SMP/Vanilla or SMP/Semi-Vanilla, or even Minigame (not a fan of tbh) are all things that are really easy to set up for me quickly.I'll be active on it, but I hope I won't be the only one. As such, since I'll be affiliating this server with Nulled (I won't really invite anyone else), I'm more than willing to give Nulled staff members staff positions on the server, and perhaps even trusted, well-known members builder status or minimod. I will be using a custom naming system (nicknames ftw) to change player names to correspond with their name on Nulled, and I may even mimic the color of the names too with the exception of pink, since that's not an internal Minecraft color. I'd use the hide tag to hide the IP, but I'm thinking a quick whitelistapplication process would suit this better. It would check to see if the member is upgraded and trusted (if so, they are whitelisted without any further question). If not, then it checks to see if the user is HQ, active, and trustworthy. I'm not sure if I'm on board with it yet, but I would find this interesting: nonstandard Nulled members gain the ability to use cosmetics, and banned members on Nulled get banned on the server.

I'm really leaning towards Semi-Vanilla Survival, since that would be the easiest to manage and gives a great sense of community. We can either do it one of threeways - grief prevention plugins, Factions, or Towny. Cheating isn't very useful on servers like this, as the anti cheating plugins are very well done these days. They only allow little to no advantage over other users, and staff would be able to inspect users silently at any time. Xray mods won't be useful, as there are efficient ways to prevent them from mining ores too quickly. As for plugins, I'm not too great at developing them myself but I can modify them to my needs. I also have a vast library of (legitimate) plugins from SpigotMC and BukkitDev. Features will most likely not be an issue here. Donations would solely be used for sustaining the server, and if there is a plugin on SpigotMC that the community wants, they can all pitch in to get it or to have someone develop it. I aim for the community to be friendly and mature, so griefing will be at a minimum. Cosmetics, idfc about honestly. I'll leave it to other staff to decide how that works. The server will be EULA compliant, so no buying kits or ranks or anything. It's not that kind of server.
