Thoughts on battle royale games?

What are your thoughts on battle royale games such as PUBG and Fortnite?
Is it worth starting to play them? I have tried PUBG, but it was too demanding, should I get a new GPU just to play PUBG?
Is it even popular in 2020???

They are fun but at times way to much in my view but its ok I guess
