First point of interest would be your ISP, what's your subscription speed? Game sizes are huge nowadays and a 5Mbps connection will direly affect your online gaming performance.
I recently used an ethernet on my PC instead of being wireless for years, I can't say it's made my internet faster but it's definitely made the connection stronger (which can help slower download times as well).
