I've been playing Overwatch since release on PC, and my girlfriend has been playing since release on PS4, switching to PC about a year ago. People on console don't talk nearly as much as they do on PC, but when they do they are generally super friendly, or at least not immediately acting like a 12 year old on CODfor the first time when his parents aren't home. Mostly, my experience on PC has been the same. But that isn't the case for my girlfriend. In at least 50% of the games she plays, if she says anything in voice chat, she's immediately barraged with negative comments about her appearance, about her weight, abouther skill (she's a fantastic player, she carries 90% of her games and has been placed in Top 500), and all before a match even starts. The male player base of this game has such fragile ego's they can't stand being on a team with a female that is better than them, so they attack her for absolutely no reason. She's even been banned on an account because her entire team reported her for throwing, even though she had 5 gold medals and her team was screaming profanities the entire game. We could have, and probably should have reported many of the things these people say to the police, because some of it is absolutely psychotic.

I guess my question is, how do you think Blizzard should treat these cases of clear sexist behavior/harassment?
They clearly aren't doing much, if anything about it now. What systems would have to be put in place to ensure that Overwatch 2 doesn't turn into the same cesspool of toxicity that the original quickly became?

For most games it seems like male toxicity overwhelms that particular games community. Its sad to see from a male perspective because some people just cannot control themselves.

Hm... you kinda got a point. Males usually on games have a peculiar taste for harassing others, and when there are female, homosexuals and etc... they appear to go too far.

It would be nice to have a system related to that.

I see what you're saying and it is very sad in my opinion.

You are plaiyng an MMORPG where you will meet a lot of retarded people, don't be shocked, part of gaming is also part of trolling, i've always encountered idiots bullying people to make themselves feel better, unsure why one would even be bothered by what a random geek in mom's basement says via voice chat :D

It is recommended that you do not add voice and rely on typing. Sometimes it's difficult to identify offensive language

I agree with you that the male fanbase of anygame is extremely hostile towards women. Fragile egos and such, but I kinda question that 5 reports = ban. My understanding is that Blizz actually reviews their bans/reports live.. so if she got banned... she probably deserved it to some extent. But yeah, I wish the online scene for gaming wasn't so toxic.

This is nothing new and it's no surprise why many women choose not to use voice chat.

I'm sure a lot of women stay silent in games, but I do see a pretty good amount of women speaking up, and they never get flamed. Not to say that it happens of course, but I personally haven't seen it myself. If anything I see more people simping when a girl chimes in.
