I must introduce you to one of my favorite recent games!
It's a Steam release, called Undertale. It adds elements from bullet hell genres into an RPG! Not only that, but fighting isn't the only answer- you have a choice in the direction the story goes.

I really adore the characters, music, and story. I know it may not be for everyone, but I'm sharing it anyway.
(The characters really tug on myheartstrings.)

Here is the link for anyone interested!

It may not be appropriate for your son, depending on his age.

Why? Is there nudity or something? Or just violence/action.

Psychological horror! Not really appropriate for children? My 25-year-old boyfriend and 29-year-old roommate were even creeped out.
I mean, it's nothing explicit-- but it does punish you mentally. Killing characters actually kills them permanently, etc?

I have never seen nor heard about the game but I think it's time to give it a try.
Do not allow the eye to fool the mind.

Oh I see Tongue
I started playing a lot of violence games when I was like 9 but I ended out just fine.
