Ohh come on, do a passion project on the sidelines. A game can be whatever you want, as long as you have a vision. It's like writing and I do that a lot.

Yeah, Computer Science, Network and Security to be more specific. Was planning on going for game developer but plans changed.

surprisingly that's not something i can find often even in college, mostly only from professors

Don't blame the professors, I would put time in playing a uni student's game, I would have zero free time.

I can feel the lost interest part.
I only play unique games now, kinda fed up from the repetitive commercial games.

One of the reasons I'm lately turning to emulating old games from the golden gaming era

i mean like everyone sucks at giving good feedback (classmates)
only ones that do it right are the professors, they actually do play every game afaik

You are really lucky to have so caring professors. Not everyone can/is as lucky as you. But I mean, you don't have to feel bad for it, just be happy.
