Elixir is a functional programming language based on the Erlang vm and is designed for massive scaling, reliability, speed, ease of development, and more. It is used to make highly responsive applications and lots of apps you wouldn't expect have been built on it like Discord. Also there is a high demand for developers and a limited number of people that know it so Elixir jobs are paying through the roof with limited competition!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Discord's frontend was built with ReactJS. You're right about them using Elixir, but only backend, so you bringing up Discord in this case is invalid.
I don't think you should move away from Javascript OP, Especially if you wish to work professionally as a web developer in the future. Many big companies use Javascript frameworks, mostly ReactJS.
