Make your hobby building one good website.

Honestly a Web 2.0 style online IRC would be cool.
Then you can sell out the source or give it away because no good looking, responsive, web 2.0 style chatrooms are out there now.

A friend of mine runs several word-press websites advertising products and other items, I'm quite jealous actually, hes making about 4 between 2-5 days.

The more sites you have and maintain the better chances of generating revenue starts to make sense.

- An adsense account
- Wordpress install
- Related domain / Hosting

I guess if you're a decent coder, you could automate the flow with a word-press plugin & some web scraping. It would work especially well if you were to scrape Amazon products, or use their API to produce Amazon Affiliate links and further build up your revenue.

But with no advertising on the site he wouldn't be able to make any money and probably wouldn't last. There are way too many porn sites out there now
