Generally a good idea. Everyone has to start somewhere. And there are games for children, so. Why not? Of course it's hard to play with whining kids in lobbys everywhere. But that's why the mute function is there.

Honestly, it's been proven that it helps with fine motor skills and other cognitive things so why not?

I don't think violent games effect people's development. At least not in a negative way and not for most.
I'm fine with kids under 15 playing games but sometimes I wish there was an age limit in competitive play.

My parents started letting me play around 9 years old and Im a fresh in hs now with all honors and AP

Considering I started at the age of 14, its completely awful and I wish I never started so I can focus on better and more advanced things such as programming.

it's fine as long the kid still goes out and interacts with other people. to learn and experience things.
not just be a shut in.
