Using a i7-7700k in my main rig cooled with a Corsair H115i, got a i5 3570k in my second rig cooled with a BeQuiet Darkrock.
Asking the same question as Crackisapro.. If you need a cpu for PLAYING Garrys Mod, anything is doable, it's an old game. For servers I'm not sure, haven't had made myself.

Using Intel Core i7 4790 3.6GHz Can overclock it if I want.
