Second this. I started with a dabbling in C++ then moved to Java. The syntax was much less cumbersome, but you still have to know many of the more abstract concepts in programming (pointers, etc).

I started with LUA and HTML, probably the easiest for anyone to learn. Currently learning CSS and C+ in college courses.

Depends on what you want to excel at, learn programming, rather than a programming language. Once you get the concept of it you can transfer your skills to other languages easily

I personally started with C# on a gaming course and from their I learned C++ and Java... I wouldn't prefer starting with Java... probably python or GML (a game making program has its own language) until you get the basics of coding down (functions, how to correctly use and, if, else, else if, loop, break loop, ect.)
Then i would say move to probably C#

I started whith Java and then I learnt PHP. Java is interesting when you like to develop something for minecraft or little applications.

If your a gamer, I would suggest starting with lua. It is one of the easiest programming languages to use to script with in games (I like lua a lot since its all hands on). But if you want to create your OWN games, I would start out with Python or C++.
