I'm really digging F# now, being able to develop in VS is just fantastic. I haven't made anything too useful yet, but it's fun to try and implement algorithms for whatever reason.
Go is also just beautiful, basically C-like but with simpler syntax, and better debugging. Writing stuff is easy and the toolchain makes management really easy. Just wish there was a bigger market share.

Well, python is great for quick hacked together applications.

Need data transferred from one db to another and change its format -> Python
Do you want to write a bot that monitors the scoreboard of a CTF, parses it and alerts you via mattermost if you loose flags on a service or there is an issue with one of your services -> Python

Then there is Java.
A lot of articles talked about how bad java is and how it wont be used for much longer.
Yes, it has its disadvantages. Patch management on client pcs is a pain in the ass (especially if you have multiple software vendors that require a system installed java version and you cant patch it because they havnt validated the new java release against their software)
But for ServerSide web applications its pretty solid and used in various Enterprises.

And finally PHP.
Nowadays you should definitly know how to do some basics in PHP. If you want to make a career in IT, theres a chance that you will have to touch it sooner or later.
Even if you are a server admin and not a webdev.

C# is widely-used to create games using the Unity game engine, which is the most popular game engine today IMO.

Scripting languages are definitely my favourite sort of programming language. I use Lua regularly for my network that I host and support. Its a very handy language to learn and it has many uses.
