By surfing the web I discovered that football is loved or hated. How's this possible? Why it seems like there isn't a mid-way solution?

If you mean soccer, it can be really interesting or really fucking slow and boring. It so much depends on who's playing who and in what conditions. I saw Russia knock out Spain in the World Cup yesterday and that was intense.
If you mean American Football, I only watch the trick play highlights on youtube, not much else.

American football is just an excuse to legally brutalize someone. Non-American football is boring to watch.

I think it's pointless running after a ball that much, and in the end seeing 1-2 goals in a game of proffessional football.
