People will invest in more promising and easier to use, cheaper currencies like Ethereum.
I mean, paying $7-8 for JUST A TRANSACTION FEE, who the fuck would want to pay that if they're going to use it to buy groceries or a coffee? Sure if you're buying guns off the deep web or hiring hitmen, $8 is nothing when it comes to a certain level guaranteed privacy, but for everyday use where the future is, it's crazy. No bank would charge so much for a friendly $20 donation to a friend or something similar. If a bank did that, they'd be looked at as thieves, but here where everyone is the bank technically, people seem to feel very different about it.
Fees are too high, and it will die. It'll be replaced with something with lower fees, because then more people will be able to use it and it may be a viable currency for the future, where no bank or country decides how much it's worth.
However, we really need some way of giving a crypto it's value other than basing it off the USD. If that rises and falls, so will the currency, completely destroying the point of a decentralized currency. It's just basing another 'token' off the USD value. I mean, isn't that the whole point?
