As a print graphic designer, for me its... 1. InDesign (page layout), 2. Illustrator (vector art/logos), 3. Photoshop (raster graphics/photo editing). I use them all simultaneously.

If you are really good at designing, software doesn't really matter. I personally like Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects for most of projects I do. But if I need to, I'll spend some time in a different software to achieve the result I want. Cinema 4D is a great software too. David Carson which is one of the best contemporary designers use Quarkxpress to even create logos, it's nuts lol

I try to mix and match multiple software together to get the best results, so it's anything from Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign to after effects and XD

Photoshop And Illustrator is the token 2 but maybe look up the Affinity programs, I have been using them for a while now and although I cant use the plugins they do a lot of the same.
