Why The United States Government is looking at banning TikTok and other Chinese soc?

? At the beginning of the pandemic, Trump disputed with China about the origin of Sars-CoV-2, and the US president repeatedly referred to the pathogen as the "China virus" or "Chinese virus". The ban of TikTok is "one of many" possible ways to take action against China, Trump now said.

I feel like a lot of the US admin's attempts to push back on China is just to create a powerful foreign enemy to scare ppl and keep them in line. They rely on nationalism for a lot of political support, so they wanna treat China as a problem to our freedoms or whatever.

Its probably all because of US/CHINA Trade war that has been happening for some time, most of China apps will probably be banned

No they are not only using it for a power move. Its a sketchy app that havest your data and sells to the chineese government. easy way to get everyone at once is to offer a free bullshit app that is connectied to millons

I know they have a lot of security issues (likely on purpose to gather data on their users), but I genuinely don't see Trump caring all that much about it.

It is more for the actual purpose of protecting the intellectual and technological property especially for those in governemnt. One should know most Chinese apps are way worse in siphoning data for the CCP than even of Google.

I'm kind of glad all the Chinese spyware--I MEAN, apps, are being banned. They have no business taking data from naive people.

China has its tendrils in far too much of the United States economy, political structure, and cultural institutions. We should not be reliant on China for manufacturing. Businesses that kowtow to them like the NBA and Blizzard/Activision are also something we should take a serious look at...
