Why are crypto currency popular all of a sudden?

One day people just started freaking out about bitcoin and other crypro currencies saying that they were going to take over our current money system. Why did they get so famous? Thanks!

Id give crypto currency a good 10 years before it dies down. It gives people lots of cash yet it can devastate people. I wont be surprised by the amount of people homeless.

Because Bitcoin started to raise and raise, and some people that bought it when it cost some dollars, became rich. All people want be rich. :lol:

Cryptocurrency aren't a stable money provider, everything that happen in marketplace since 1 year can happen to crypto one day.

My guess is, that rich people started to invest in crypto currencies(people who have enough cash to do things like that), which caused the enormous increase in price. If this is the case, crypto will keep it's value. If it was a scam, created by the big miners (mostly located in china), crypto will die.

Because it rose so quick that it was all over the news.

Not really a "sudden" burst of popularity. I've seen bitcoin starting to get popular around 2014.
