Why credit system?

I'm new here and initially I still didn't quite understand the logic of this system. Why use a paywall in an information sharing medium?

i still dont know how to get credits ngl hopefully i can get some soon

Like seeding requirements on a private tracker, it makes contributing to the community a requirement to prevent people just taking what they want and leaving. Think of it like less of a paywall and more of a participation thing. Nothing wrong with encouraging providing content
