Why does Chrome take up so much Memory?

Chrome has always taken up so much of my pcs memory. I currently have 8gb of ram used to have 16 but it got corrupted. Just wanna find out why chrome does this, for now im using firefox

i know why it dose best to do it in a example.

E.G. you look up a pic (tits for eg) it takes a few secs to load up when it dose and you close down your browser its pretty much saves it on your computer so the next time u look it up again it only takes a sec to load.

I dont know if you can disable this but i wouldent as it makes browsing thing faster. plus i have 8Gb and i have no problem at all. Internet issue?

Actually what is described by @OblivionBrontide is called caching. cached items are stored on HDD and that doesn't affect memory.

I think the main reason is Chrome's Multi-threaded Structure, so that every new tab & installed extensions runs in a separate thread. This is good because if a tab becomes unresponsive or one of your extensions crashes, it doesn't crash the whole browser but the downside is increased resource usage.

Maybe you have too many extensions installed, check the extensions & remove unnecessary ones.
You can also press Shift-ESC to open chrome's built-in task manager and see your memory usage there.

memory leaks huge... use opera it is built on chromium but without memory leaks

YouTube takes most of it, try using apps on windows 10 if they exist instead of using an webpage.
Or limit to only 1 youtube tab same goes for facebook.

Chrome has a lot of background operations running, which makes it slow.

I think that's because of the try to speed-up pages

they try to save as much as possible in local to download the least possible
