Is there any notable differences between windows mixed reality headset and the HTC Vive or is it worth it for the price.

They're two totally different things. Vive is ment to emulate a completely virtual world, VR (Virtual Reality). Windows MR is different because its Mixed Reality.

That's not the case, actually.

Mixed Reality is basically Microsoft's budget VR goggles. They're actually pretty cool, and there's a app on the Steam store for free that adds support for them with OpenVR/SteamVR titles.

Now, when it comes to differences, I vastly prefer the Vive's tracking setup(no cameras, it's all laser beam magic), but you can't beat that dirt cheap price for VR.
