I'd start with getting your flow down first. Syncing clips and smooth transitions that work well with the music you're using. The effects are usually the hard part. Get used to the workspace in after effects and it'll become muscle memory within a week. The effects most editors use comes from plugins like Sapphire, BorisFX, NewBlue, etc. there are tons of tutorials on youtube on how to get them and use them.
